Ways to Give Your Heater a Break This Winter

Cooler weather has finally arrived in La Habra, CA, and while we aren’t exactly buried in snow, our heaters can still expect to see plenty of work in the next few months. No one likes to see higher heating bills, and increased use means increased risk of a breakdown. How can you minimize those costs while still enjoying the warm air you and your family need?  There are a number of different indoor air quality products and other upgrades that provide ways to give your heater a break this winter. We’ve outlined a few of them below.

Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRV)

These devices are placed in your attic, and bring fresh air in from outside your home as well as pumping the stale air out. A heat exchanger between the two facilitates a temperature shift, ensuring that the temperature inside your home remains the same regardless. As a result, your air feels fresher and cleaner. More importantly, your heater won’t have to work so hard to keep your home feeling comfy.

Insulation

It sounds like a no-brainer, but numerous homes in Southern California lack adequate insulation because our winters are so mild. Adding a layer or two will help cut down on heating bills, as well as helping out in the summer: it keeps hot air out just as readily as it keeps hot air in!

Humidifiers

High humidity levels make the air feel warmer, which is no fun in the summer. In the winter, however, it can be just want the doctor ordered. A whole-house humidifier can ease the strain on your heater, as well as cutting down on static electricity and preventing that dry itchy feeling from coming over your household.
