If you’re a homeowner, energy efficiency becomes the order of the day, and here in La Habra, CA, that means getting the most out of your heating and cooling system. Our summers are hot enough to make you really feel the pinch and while our winters are fairly mild, you still need your heater to function as it should. But beyond the temperature in your home, you want to make sure you aren’t paying more than you should for it, and that means keeping your home energy efficient.
An energy recovery ventilator can be a key component in this battle: placed in your attic and allowing you to enjoy more efficient heating and cooling in your home. What is an energy recovery ventilator? Read on for the answers and find out how it can benefit your home.
How It Functions
The ERV consists of two ducts connected to fans: one blowing air into your home from the outside, and one blowing air from the inside of your home out. The two ducts never meet, but they do pass through an energy transfer array at the center of the system. That shifts the temperatures between the two flows of air in order to maintain the household temperature that your heating or air conditioning system has worked so hard to produce. As a result, the air in your home is swapped out with fresh air without losing the current temperature.
Why it Benefits You
The biggest benefit of this system is that it takes the strain off of your heating and air conditioning systems, making it easier to do their jobs and costing you much less in monthly bills in the bargain. In addition, by swapping out the air, it helps improve the quality of your indoor air and reduces the risk of colds or other illnesses.
